Panama
Central America is calling!
Reminder: Direct Flights from Barbados to Panama City with Copa Airlines
Copa Airlines started direct flights from Barbados to Panama City in July 2018, linking the Eastern Caribbean to Panama. Flights are on Wednesdays and Saturdays with great connections to other countries in Central and South America.
Panama is world-famous for its 48-mile canal that connects the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean. Each year, over a million people visit the canal and are able to witness this engineering marvel at work. Panama is very proud to have this magnificent creation operating 365 days a year, enabling the world's cargo to be shipped efficiently and safely to new destinations.
If you want that perfect, sunny weather, Panama is also perfect for great weather too. The beaches are beautiful -- and plentiful, the accommodations are excellent, and the weather is warm and pleasant year-round. If you’re not convinced just yet, here are some other things you may want to know about traveling to Panama. Airports in Panama include Tocumen International Airport just outside Panama City, the country’s hopping capital city. Flights are frequent from many international locations.
To start off, stay in the city for a day or two to get a taste of life in a place as metropolitan as they come in Central America. Choose from glittering high-rise hotels overlooking the water, or affordable guesthouses dotted throughout the city’s colonial-era sector -- or “Casco Viejo” as the locals call it. Dance the night away at a salsa club or sample some of the local and international cuisine, all within a charming, walkable zone that benefits from sweet sea breezes. Also visit the Miraflores Visitor Center, where you can watch giant ships pass through the Panama Canal.
Outside the city, choose from a host of gorgeous beaches -- so many that it may be hard to narrow it down to only one! Popular beach destinations include the Bocas del Toro island chain on the Caribbean coast, as well as the islands of San Blas. On the Pacific side, check out the many uncrowded beaches of Panama’s “Riviera,” a short drive from Panama City. Beach accommodations range from five-star hotels to quaint thatched huts. To get up and close to nature, a visit to Boquete, a mountain destination in the north of the country that’s home to coffee farms and diverse flora and fauna.
