When to visit
Travel to Madrid at any time of the year. Madrid is in a temperate part of Europe, where the temperatures are generally welcoming throughout the year. As with summer in most countries, this is a popular season for travel, so take this into consideration when planning. Spring (March to May) and Fall (September to November) are also highly recommended. Whatever season you choose, there are more than enough hostels, apartments and upscale hotel accommodation in Madrid to meet the needs of any discerning traveller.
Where to visit
The Royal Botanical Gardens is the place to visit for those interested in the outdoors, plants and nature. For lovers of classical music, El Auditorio Naccional de Musica must be seen for its structural attractiveness, but more importantly be sure to take in a concert or two, as this is said to be one of the best locations for classical listening. While not the official residence of the King of Spain, the Royal Palce of Madrid is still used at times for official functions and is a place of national interest in the city; enjoy a guided tour to take in its history and architectural appeal.
There are many churches in Spain, however, try to fit in a stop at the Iglesia de San Antonio de los Alemanes. The enthralling and intricate beauty of its frescoes and high altars, and its overall visual appeal, make it a worthy of a visit. Not to be overlooked is a visit to one of the many football grounds or stadiums. Let Estadio Vicente Calderon, the first large all-seater stadium in Europe be high on your list of things to do in Madrid.
